Gymnocalycium catamarcense is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Gymnocalycium catamarcense usually grows individually or sometimes forms large groups with gray-green, flattened spherical to spherical shoots with a sunken apex that reach heights of 3.5 to 6 centimeters with a diameter of 7.5 centimeters. They are rarely elongated in a columnar shape and then reach heights of growth of almost 50 centimeters. The 13 to 26 (rarely from nine) wide ribs are rounded. The egg-shaped to elongated areoles located on it are covered with bright yellow to yellowish-brown wool. The mostly seven (rarely five to nine) flattened, yellowish to light brown thorns are often present in two colors and later turn gray. There are up to three strongly curved central spines, which can also be missing. The approximately nine radial spines are 3 to 4 inches long. One of them is bent downwards, the rest are bent inwards laterally and often interlock.

The white to greenish white flowers are 5 to 5.5 centimeters long and 4 to 4.3 centimeters in diameter. The green fruits are spherical to pear-shaped. They are up to 1.8 inches long and reach a diameter of 1.2 inches.
