The Archdiocese of Mbeya ( Latin Archidioecesis Mbeyaënsis , Swahili Jimbo Kuu la Mbeya ) is in Tanzania situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Mbeya .
history
The diocese of Mbeya was on July 18, 1932 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Cum munus apostolicum from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Tanganyika as a Mission sui juris Tukuyu . The Mission sui juris Tukuyu was on March 29, 1938 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Si qua raised to the Apostolic Prefecture . The Tukuyu Apostolic Prefecture was founded on July 14, 1949 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Merito ad potiorem raised to the Apostolic Vicariate and renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Mbeya .
On March 25, 1953, the Vicariate Apostolic Mbeya by Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quemadmodum ad Nos raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tabora as a suffragan . The diocese of Mbeya gave on March 25, 1972 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Singida . On November 18, 1987, the diocese of Mbeya was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Songea as a suffragan.
On December 21, 2018, Pope Francis elevated the diocese of Mbeya to an archdiocese and subordinated the dioceses of Iringa and Sumbawanga as suffragan dioceses.
