The Bistum Iringa ( lat. : Dioecesis Iringaënsis ) is an in Tanzania preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Iringa .

history

The diocese of Iringa was on March 3, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quae rei from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Dar es Salaam as Apostolic Prefecture Iringa . On January 28, 1935, the Apostolic Prefecture of Iringa gave parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Dodoma . The Apostolic Prefecture of Iringa was founded on January 8, 1948 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Digna sane raised to the Apostolic Vicariate .

On March 25, 1953 the Apostolic Vicariate Iringa was by Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quemadmodum ad Nos raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam as a suffragan . The diocese of Iringa gave up on February 16, 1968 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Njombe . On November 18, 1987, the diocese of Iringa was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Songea as a suffragan. On December 21, 2018, it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mbeya as a suffragan.
