Gymnocalycium denudatum is a species of plant in the genus Gymnocalycium from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet denudatum means 'denudatus: bared, naked'.

description

Gymnocalycium denudatum grows individually with glossy dark green, depressed spherical to spherical shoots , which reach heights of 2 to 3 centimeters with a diameter of 6 to 8 centimeters. The five to eight flat ribs are barely humped. There are only a few areoles per rib on them . The three to five slightly twisted, whitish-yellow thorns lying on the shoot surface are 1 to 1.5 centimeters long.

The shiny, pure white flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and 7 centimeters in diameter. The green fruits are elongated.

The type is very variable.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Gymnocalycium denudatum is distributed in Brazil , Uruguay , Argentina and probably Paraguay at altitudes of up to 500 meters.

It was first described as Echinocactus denudatus in 1828 by Heinrich Friedrich Link and Christoph Friedrich Otto . Ludwig Mittler placed the species in the genus Gymnocalycium in 1844 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
