Christoph Friedrich Otto

Christoph Friedrich Otto (born December 4, 1783 in Schneeberg , † September 7, 1856 in Berlin ) was a German gardener and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Otto ".

Life

From 1805 to 1843 Otto was inspector of the Royal Botanical Garden in Berlin-Schöneberg , the predecessor of the Berlin Botanical Garden . Together with Albert Gottfried Dietrich , he was the publisher of the Allgemeine Gartenzeitung from 1833 to 1856 .

His son, Eduard Otto (1812–1885), was also a botanist and editor of the Neue Allgemeine Garten- und Blumenzeitung , which was continued after seven editions in 1851 with the Hamburger Garten- und Blumenzeitung .

Honors

The plant genera Ottoa Kunth from the umbelliferae family (Apiaceae) and Ottonia Spreng. from the Piperaceae family have been named after him.
