The name "Hármashatárhegy" means "three-border mountain" because until the 19th century three cities bordered each other, namely Buda , Óbuda and Pesthidegkút . Today these places belong to Budapest, only the border between the II. And III. District runs over the mountain. But its name has not changed.

The Hármashatárhegy is a popular place for hiking , cycling and paragliding , and in winter also for sledding. There are many hiking trails, the Országos Kéktúra and the Eisenach-Budapest mountain hiking trail (marked in blue) lead over the summit . There is a television tower and a restaurant there.

Because of the few trees, it is very windy on the summit and the snow stays up to two weeks longer than in the city center. On average, the temperature is a few degrees lower than on the Pest side.
