Héctor Elpidio Acosta Restituyo ( El Torito ; born May 23, 1967 in Bonao ) is a Dominican singer and composer.

Acosta began her musical career as a choir singer in the church of San Antonio de Paula in his hometown. In 1982 he took part in a local radio station singing competition, which he won. He then performed with various local bands in clubs and at festivals in the region. He was discovered as the bass player in the band Los Gentiles , popular in Bonao , by Gerardo Diaz , who was the manager of Los Toros .

Díaz brought him as a singer to the Los Toros, with whom he could be heard from 1991 on all Dominican radio stations. The successful collaboration, in the course of which hits like Se Soltaron and the album Raices were created, lasted until 2006. In that year he founded his own band with which he produced the album Sigo Siendo Yo (with radio hits like Me Voy and Primavera Azul ).

This was followed by the albums Mitad / Mitad (2008), Simplemente ... El Torito (2009) and Obligame (2010), all of which took top positions in the Latin American chart lists . With Simplemente ... El Torito and Obligame Acosta won gold records , Obligame was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Tropical Album . In the following years, Acosta toured the United States and South America, and also produced the studio album Con el Corazón Abierto (2012) and the Ä Merengue y Sentmiento collection (2015). In 2015, Barack Obama awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in the White House. His songs have been covered by Romeo Santos , Jorge Calderon and Alejandro Fernández and remixed by Jose Nieves (RKM) and Kenny Vasquez (Ken-Y) and Don Omar .
