Héctor Lacognata

Héctor Ricardo Lacognata Zaragoza (born September 6, 1962 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan politician .

Life

After attending school, he studied medicine at the Colegio Cristo Rey and was involved in the Center for Medical Students (Centro de Estudiantes de Medicina) during the military dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner in 1985. After completing his studies, however, he devoted himself to his professional activity as a doctor for pediatrics over the next few years .

It was not until 2001 that he became politically active again when he became campaign manager of the Partido Encuentro Nacional (PEN). In the elections on April 27, 2003 Lacognata, who was meanwhile a member of the Movimento / Partido Patria Querida (MPQ / PPQ), which had recently been founded, was elected as one of 9 representatives of the Asunción constituency. For a time he was first vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies and also advocated a worldwide ban on the use of child soldiers . He was also one of the critics of the then government of President Nicanor Duarte Frutos , whom he accused of reducing the number of sick people when dengue fever broke out in February 2007.

In the parliamentary and presidential elections in Paraguay in 2008 he was elected to represent his party in the Parliament of Mercosur .

On April 29, 2009, he was appointed Foreign Minister of Paraguay by President Fernando Lugo .

As Foreign Minister, he hosted a Mercosur summit in July 2009 to deal with the situation in Honduras .
