The Hölloch is a natural karst cave near the Swabian market town of Oberstdorf in the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria .

The cave is located in the Mahdtal directly on the southern border of Germany. It is located in the municipality of Oberstdorf. Access is possible through the Kleinwalsertal in Austria. The cave has a measured total length of 11,346 meters, extends horizontally for 1823 meters and has a height difference of 452 meters.

The first inspection of the 76.6 meter deep entrance shaft and the main corridor as well as their first measurement took place in 1906 by Hermann Paul from Innerschwende and the chaplain Xaver Lutz from Riezlern.

Since October 2005 there has been a second access to the Hölloch, the so-called Plattenalpschacht. This allows easier entry into the newer parts of the cave and will facilitate further research and surveying. However, the shaft is closed and cannot be used for tourist purposes.

The Hölloch is an active water cave . When the snow melts or rain, water penetrates within a very short time and can cut off the way back. Stable weather conditions are absolutely essential for driving. A visit should only be done by trained, experienced cave explorers .
