history

Neukirchen is first mentioned in 1227 in the Wittelsbacher Urbar under the name Nivwenkirchen , later it is called Niunkirchen, then Neukirchen. The name refers to the newly built church at this location in contrast to the old church in Stuben near Pöttmes, which has since disappeared . The name Hölzlarn means something like forest clearing , while Sparmannseck can mean either a paraphrase of Sparen wir's Eck or Eck des Sparmann .

The ownership structure of the Neukirchen, Hölzlarner and Sparmannseck properties was always split up: the Wittelsbach dukes themselves, the monasteries Niederschönenfeld and Thierhaupten , the caste offices Graisbach and Rain , the court brands Pichl and Sandizell , the University of Ingolstadt and the church foundation and parish church in Neukirchen each owned .
The Catholic parish church of Sankt Vitus in Neukirchen is Romanesque - the south wall of the nave is still standing. The north wall, the choir and the tower date from the 17th century. The three-part folding altar with wooden paintings dates from 1610. The church and its benefices (from 1500 Stuben became a branch of Neukirchen, before it was the other way around) belonged successively to the Bavarian dukes, the Thierhaupten monastery and the Fürstenfeld monastery .
Until July 1, 1972, the independent community of Neukirchen belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and came to the
district of Augsburg as part of the regional reform in Bavaria (initially called the district of Augsburg-West ). On May 1, 1978 Neukirchen was incorporated into Thierhaupten .
