location

The trapezoidal system is (today) in the western area of Stralendorf in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , directly on the street (Gartenweg).

description

With a length of 125 m, it is the longest installation in Mecklenburg and one of the longest in Germany. Their width decreases from about 4.0 m in the south to 1.5 m in the north. The stones, which are not all that big, become smaller to the north. In 1934 the mound was largely preserved. In 1964, the facility was excavated and reconstructed by Ewald Schuldt (1914–1987). It turned out that all the stones in the enclosure have been preserved. The systems of this type are characterized by delimited stone accumulations (pavement), which lie under the mound and are covered with rolling stone packings. In Stralendorf, there were six such plasters, lying horizontally and vertically, inside the enclosure.

The 125 m long bed was completely removed during the excavation and then filled up again. It was found that the blocks of the enclosure were placed in shallow pits and wedged with stones. Dry stone masonry filled the gaps between the blocks. The sandy soil was filled with countless pebbles of various sizes on the old surface. Only the pavement surrounded by rolling stones was sunk into the ground. The differences in the dimensions of the blocks in the enclosure were striking in the northern part, which are 1.5 m long and only 0.5 m high at the south end. The excavator believes that the bed was originally only 38 meters long and was later enlarged. In the older part, the embankment was still 0.6 m high.

No human bones were found. The additions include 108 shards, five arrowheads , four amphorae, four blades , four scrapers , two funnel beakers, a dagger , a flat ax, a gouge , a cross cutter , a hammer , a wide-mouthed pot and a bowl.
