Hüseyin Doğan Özgöçmen

Hüseyin Doğan Özgöçmen (born March 25, 1916 in Drama , Greece ; † August 16, 2001 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish general of the army (Türk Kara Kuvvetleri) who, among other things, was the commander of the Armed Forces Academies ( TSK Harp Akademileri Komutanlığı) and from 1973 to 1975 commander of the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) .

Life

Özgöçmen completed an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) after attending school and then worked as an officer in various army units. After graduating from the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) in 1945, he was employed as an officer and staff officer in various army units and was most recently head of the planning and policy department in the General Staff of Turkey .

After his promotion to General (Orgeneral) Özgöçmen was on September 4, 1968 successor to Lieutenant General Kami Güzey as Commander of the Academies of the Armed Forces ( TSK Harp Akademileri Komutanlığı) . He stayed in this post for three years until he was replaced by General Suat Aktulga on September 11, 1971. He then became a member of the YAŞ Supreme Military Council (Yüksek Askeri Şura) and then on August 14, 1973, as the successor to General Faik Türün, commander the 1st Army (Birinci Ordu) stationed in Istanbul's Selimiye barracks , which is responsible for securing the borders with Greece and Bulgaria and the strategically important straits of the Bosporus and Dardanelles . In personal union he was also the commander for martial law in Istanbul (İstanbul Sıkıyönetim Komutanlığı) . He held this post until his retirement on August 25, 1975 and was replaced by General Adnan Ersöz .

After retiring from active military service, Özgöçmen was a member of the boards of directors of the banking and financial services company Yapı Kredi Bankası and the printing company Tifdruk A.Ş. On September 10, 1993, he was assassinated, after which he had to be treated for some time. He was married and had two children. After his death he was buried in the Emirgan Reşatpaşa Cemetery (Emirgan Reşatpaşa Mezarlığı) in Istanbul.
