Hāwea is a place in the Queenstown-Lakes District of the Otago regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The place is about 14 km northeast of Wanaka on the southern bank of Lake Hāwea . The Hāwea River , over which the water of Lake Hāwea flows, passes the place on its western side. To the south of Hāwea opens up a wide plain that extends to the Clutha River , while to the west and east of the town the mountains rise to over 1500 m .
The small settlement of Hāwea Flat is located around 5 km southeast of the plain .

In the 2013 census, the town had 2,175 inhabitants, 36.3% more than in the 2006 census.
Infrastructure
Hawea is about the New Zealand State Highway 6 , which is directly west runs past the site of the New Zealand Highway -Straßennetz connected.
