HC Potter
Henry Codman Potter (born November 13, 1904 in New York City , New York , † August 31, 1977 in Southampton , New York) was an American theater and film director .
Life
HC Potter was born in New York in 1904 as the grandson of Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States Henry Codman Potter . In 1936 he graduated from Yale University . From 1927 to 1935 he directed numerous Broadway productions and then went to Hollywood , where he directed more than 20 films and earned a reputation as a specialist in comedies.
In 1926 he married Lucilla Annie Wylie, with whom he had three sons (Daniel J. Potter, Robert A. Potter and Earl Wylie Potter).
In 1958 he retired from the film business and founded a stage production company in New York with Richard Meyers , where he died in 1977.
