Harrison Leslie Adams (born December 30, 1932 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American composer and pianist .

Adams studied composition with Herbert Elwell and Joseph R. Wood , singing with Robert Fountain and piano with Emil Danenberg at Oberlin College . After graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1955, he took private composition lessons with Robert Starer (1959) and Vittorio Giannini (1960). He continued his education at California State University with Leon Dallin and Robert Tyndall (Master's degree 1967) and from 1968 to 1973 at Ohio State University with Marshall Barnes . In postgraduate studies he took classes with Edward Mattila at the University of Kansas and with Eugene O'Brien at the Cleveland Institute of Music . He was also a private student of Marcel Dick between 1978 and 1983 .

From 1957 to 1961 Adams worked as a piano accompanist with various ballet groups and dance companies, including the Ballets Russes and the choreographers Robert Joeffrey and June Taylor . At Karamou House in his hometown, he worked as musical director from 1964 to 1965 and as composer in residence from 1979 to 1980 . He continued to work as a guest composer at Cuyahoga Community College (1980) and composer in residence at the Cleveland Music School Settlement . In 1981 he founded Accord Associates, Inc. , which he directed until 1986, after which he was Vice President and Composer in Residence of the company until 1992. Since 1996 he has been music director and choir director of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Lakewood / Ohio, since 1998 president of Creative Arts, Inc.
