Other names Babcock's Star, GL Lacertae

HD 215441 (also GL Lacertae , GL Lac for short ) is an Ap star (a star that shows unusual elements in its spectrum) and also has a strong magnetic field. As a variable it belongs to the Alpha 2 -Canum Venaticorum stars . Its distance is about 1,600  light years .

For a star, HD 215441 has a strong magnetic field of around 34  kilogauss, which corresponds to 3.4  Tesla . This value was determined in 1960 by Horace Welcome Babcock , which is why the star is also known as Babcock's star .
