HIS Jeans is a jeans brand from HIS Textil GmbH that has existed since 1923 and has several locations in Europe.

history

The company was founded in New York in 1923 by Henry I. Siegel from Lublin , whose initials now form the company logo. The original name was "Honesdale Manufacturing Co.". The company initially produced workwear for plantation workers in the US state of Tennessee , the production location was Bruceton . The cotton used to manufacture the denim came from three of the company's own plantations. Since the clothing was well made and robust, the manufacturer became a supplier to the US Army for field jackets during World War II .

After Henry I. Siegel's death in 1949, his 19-year-old son Jesse Siegel took over management of the company. Whereas previously only work trousers for men were produced, fashionable denim clothing should now also be produced. To do this, he founded the HIS brand in 1956. In the 1960s, this brand developed into an American label for sportswear for young men. From 1964, when female fashion was increasingly oriented towards so-called “man-tailored” models, the company also developed women's jeans at the suggestion of Barbara Siegel, the owner's wife.

Since the 1970s, HIS was also represented on the European market; the trademark was registered in Germany in 1981. Siegel brought an innovation to other manufacturers in that he was the first jeans manufacturer to offer his models in different leg lengths and widths. This made HIS the third largest manufacturer of women's jeans in America in the 1980s.

At the beginning of the 1990s the company went public and was renamed “HIS Sportswear AG”. The brand developed into the leading women's jeans manufacturer on the German market and entered the licensing business . Accessories , “eyewear” (fashionable glasses), leather, sportswear, socks, beachwear, bathing suits, cosmetics, shoes and underwear were now sold under the HIS brand .

At the beginning of 2002 the company HIS Sportswear AG was sold to the group VF Corporation after a restructuring and incorporated. The headquarters in Garching near Munich was closed in 2005. In 2007 the Otto Group acquired the HIS trademark rights. In 2008, HIS Textil GmbH was founded in Hamburg by the managing partner Wolfgang Sahm. A year later, the HIS WOMEN company came onto the German market. The new women's collection was followed a short time later by one for men. In 2010 HIS began to support the “ Cotton made in Africa” initiative . Since then, HIS has been supplying jeans and tops made from sustainably produced cotton.
