HMS Defiant
HMS Defiant is the name of a fictitious ship of the Royal Navy , which is addressed in several works of fiction. In fact, there was never a ship of this name in the Royal Navy, but several with the name HMS Defiance . However, the name HMS Defiant is sometimes widespread outside of fictional works, and even appears in some official publications as an alleged real ship.
- The 1962 feature film Rebellion ( HMS Defiant or Damn the Defiant! (USA)) by John Knatchbull is about a mutiny on a Royal Navy ship called the HMS Defiant . It is proven to be the origin of many of the other uses of this name.
- In a sketch (title: Lifeboat / Old Lady Snoopers ) from Season 3 of Monty Python's Flying Circus , the HMS Defiant is mentioned by an officer climbing aboard a Royal National Lifeboat Institution's lifeboat . This Defiant is probably a submarine , as the officer mentioned in this sketch jumps overboard again afterwards.
- In the science fiction series Starship Enterprise there is a spaceship called the USS Defiant , later another ship with this name, the USS Defiant (NX-74205) , appears in the follow-up series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . Both lead their name directly back to an allegedly existing ship HMS Defiant on earth , which in turn is alluded to in the subsequent Star Trek: Enterprise series .
- Also in David Weber's science fiction novel series about Honor Harrington there are several ships with the name HMS Defiant in the Royal Manticoran Navy .
