The HMS Howe ( 32 ), was a British battleship of the King George V class , which during the Second World War was used.

history

The battleship was named after Admiral Richard Howe, 1st Earl Howe . Originally the name Beatty  - after David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty , the commanding admiral of the battle cruiser fleet in the Skagerrakschlacht  - was intended for the ship. In February 1940 it was decided to christen the ship Howe .

The Howe belonged to the Home Fleet in 1942 and early 1943. Then she was assigned to Force H in the Mediterranean Sea and carried out coastal bombardments at Trapani and Favignana during the landing in Sicily . It was overhauled from October 1943 to June 1944 and then served in the British Pacific Fleet, where it again fired on land targets in support of the Battle of Okinawa . After the war it was used for training and was scrapped from 1957.
