The HSG Gütersloh (officially: Handballspielgemeinschaft Gütersloh eV ) is a handball club from Gütersloh . The first men's team took part in the DHB Cup twice.

history

The HSG Gütersloh was created in 1982 through the merger of the handball departments of the SV Arminia Gütersloh and the CVJM Gütersloh . Two years later, the handball players from Blau-Gelb Gütersloh were added. After the CVJM handball players had left the HSG in the meantime, the handball players from Gütersloher TV joined the syndicate in 1994 . The Gütersloher TV indicates the year 1995 for joining the HSG.

After many years in lower-class leagues, the Güterslohern managed to get promoted to the Westphalia Association in 2003 and then signed the former national player Peter Gerfen . After a third place in the promotion season, the HSG stayed in the midfield of the association league for a few years before the team made it to the fourth-class Oberliga Westfalen in 2010. Two years later, he was relegated to the association league, before moving to the regional league in 2017 and to the district league a year later.

The Gütersloh handball players took part in the DHB Cup twice. In the first participation in the 2009/10 season , the HSG failed in the first round with 29:31 at SG Wift Neumünster . The second participation followed in the 2011/12 season . There the Gütersloher prevailed with 30:27 against third division TuS Spenge and failed in round two with 25:42 at the Bundesliga club and reigning German champions HSV Hamburg . For the game against Hamburg, HSG Gütersloh moved to Bielefeld's Seidensticker Hall .
