The HSO Business School Switzerland is a Swiss educational group.

history

The first HSO school was founded by Camille A. Bise and in the spring of 1954 in the Zurich district of Oerlikon as a business school Oerlikon opened. The first course introduced prospective businesspeople to typing.

In 1959, it became a day trading school with a full commercial training program. “KV” (after “Commercial Association”) is synonymous in Switzerland with commercial issues and training. Later it changed to the training center "HSO Handels- und Kaderschule Oerlikon Zurich". In 2004, 10 years after the current Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Beat Nägelin took over the management of the HSO, the HSO had 1,500 students in various courses, including communication, IT, business school, KV college and management training. In 2007 the HSO began to expand throughout Switzerland and is now called the "HSO Business and Computer Science School". There are educational centers in Aarau , Baar , Basel , Bern , Chur , Lucerne , Rapperswil , St. Gallen , Solothurn , Thun and Zurich .

In 2020, the HSO had 3,800 students and a faculty with 450 employees and lecturers. The training and further education comprises 40 different courses. These range from federal diplomas and postgraduate diplomas to bachelor programs recognized in Europe and globally accredited master’s programs. This includes basic commercial training and various professional examinations up to the higher technical college and university of applied sciences , as well as further studies up to the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA).

HSO historical 03 Image.jpg Example 1950s: The photo shows the owner and director of the school in front of a class. As a detail you can see various plants that were also in all the other classrooms: botany was the director's hobby.
HSO historical 01 Image.jpg Example from the early 1970s: photo taken during the economic boom. The then head of the business school did not have enough teachers to run all classes and so decided to teach from his living room via video camera and to transmit it to several classrooms simultaneously.
HSO historical 02 Image.jpg Example from the late 1970s: newspaper ad from 1976 as an example of marketing in the recession. They advertised evening courses at a unit price of CHF 250

Courses

The courses are structured in KV College, Business School, Management School and Marketing School. The individual training courses were refined in 2013 and outlined as follows:

  • The HSO KV College is a commercial vocational and Matura school for beginners.
  • The HSO commercial school is intended to provide additional commercial training.
  • The HSO management school is intended to convey action and decision-making skills.
  • The HSO Executive Business School is used for management education.
