history
In the Ha Long region there are archaeological remains of prehistoric people from 3000 to 1500 BC. This culture is known as the Hạ Long culture. She used shells as jewelry and currency exchange.
The French began to mine coal in the region during the colonial era, which made the region economically important. During the Vietnam War , the region was an important link with China, so it was the focus of several air strikes by American forces .
The present city was founded in 1993 when the old capital Hòn Gai was merged with Bãi Cháy, the main tourist area.
economy
Whereas mining used to dominate the economy, tourism is now the most important industry. Because of its proximity to the People's Republic of China , many Chinese visit the city.
Infrastructure
The Van Don International Airport is connected to the airport in the Hạ Long with the outside world. It is about 50 km from the city center.
