The airport Quang Ninh ( Vietnamese Sân bay Quốc tế Quang Ninh ), the airport is under construction the Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh , which in the region north-east on the Gulf of Tonkin is. It is being built near the community of Đoàn Kết on the island of Vân Đồn, 120 km northeast of Hai Phong and 50 km northeast of Ha Long City . He is to the tourist development of the island Van Don and the UNESCO - World Heritage Halong Bay serve. The construction costs are estimated between 243 and 350 million US $ .

In the first expansion stage, the capacity is to be 800,000 passengers, which is to be increased to 3.5 million passengers by 2020.

The construction should initially take place with Korean participation. In March 2015, the local Sun Group was commissioned with the construction, which should start construction in April 2015. The airport opened in December 2018.

Van Don Economic Zone

The airport is part of the Van Don Economic Zone , a special economic zone in which tourism etc. a. to be developed with a casino. The Sun Group, which is already represented with tourism projects in the Danang area, will also invest in this area . The area is one of the 15 “Coastal Economic Zones”, each of which is more than 10,000 hectares in size and offers investors a particularly high level of support in the form of tax breaks and exemptions from import duties.
