The Phu Quoc Airport ( Vietnamese Sân bay Phú Quốc , IATA : PQC, ICAO : VVPQ) is the former airport of Phu Quoc in southern Vietnam . At the end of 2012 it was replaced by Phú Quốc International Airport .
history
Phu Quoc Airport was built by French colonists in the 1930s and expanded significantly during the Vietnam War . Originally designed as a small airfield with a 996 meter long runway, the airlines also took over commercial flights from Phu Quoc after the fall of Saigon in 1975. For this purpose, the runway was finally expanded to 1,496 meters in 1983. A new terminal was built from 1994 to 1995 and was in operation until the airport closed in 2012.
