VietJet Air is a Vietnamese low-cost airline based in Hanoi and based at Hanoi Airport .
history
VietJet Air was founded in late 2007, making it the first private airline founded in Vietnam. In fact, the first to take off was the now bankrupt Indochina Airlines . Until now the market had been controlled by the state. It was originally planned to start at the end of 2008; the capital was 32 million US dollars . But there were numerous delays for various reasons. In February 2010, the Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia acquired a 30 percent stake in the VietJet, which had not yet taken off. As a result, VietJet had to rename itself to VietJet Air by order of the state . In summer 2010, the company announced another postponement of the start of operations for the fifth time.
The airline finally took off on December 25, 2011. The first plane had previously arrived in Vietnam on December 14th. At the start of operations, the fleet consisted of three leased Airbus A320-200s , which had previously been in service with the failed Kuwaiti Wataniya Airways . The first route led from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City , which is served three times a day. Thus, there were more than four years between the establishment and the start of flight operations. The second route, the Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang route, was announced, starting in February 2012. Da Nang - Hanoi is also part of the program. All routes are by far the most important in Vietnam.
In the next few years, VietJet Air plans to grow into a large airline. In addition to domestic destinations, she also wants to fly to international destinations in Southeast Asia . According to the company's own information, the crew members of the company should be composed internationally, which relates in particular to pilots etc. An IPO is planned and, according to the founder Nguyen Thi Phung Theo, should take place in the first half of 2016. Up to 30% of the company's shares should come onto the market.
