The Phu Quoc International Airport ( Vietnamese : Sân bay Quốc tế Phu Quoc or Cang hàng không Quoc Phu Quoc tế , . English Phu Quoc International Airport ) is the airport of the island Phu Quoc in the province of Kien Giang in Vietnam . With the opening of the international airport, the old Phu Quoc airport was closed.
After completion of the first construction phase, it will have a capacity of 2.6 million passengers per year. In the final expansion stage (2020 or later) the capacity should reach 7 million passengers per year.
history
The development plan for the airport was approved by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in 2006 . The Airport Corporation of Vietnam began construction of the airport on November 23, 2008, with an initial investment of VND 3,000 billion. The airport was designed by CPG-PAE, a Singapore-US company. After a construction phase of five years, the airport was officially opened on December 2, 2012. The maiden flight took place on December 15, 2012. The total cost of the airport at the opening were 775 million US dollars given (VND 16,700 billion).
