Haageocereus subtilispinus is a species of plant in the genus Haageocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet subtilispinus means 'fine, delicate, thinly thorn'.

Haageocereus subtilispinus grows with branched, semi-upright, green shoots from the base , which reach a length of 0.5 to 1 meter with a diameter of 3.5 to 5 centimeters. There are 15 to 16 blunt ribs that are 3 to 4 millimeters high and on which there are white areoles . The ten to 15 strong, needle-like to awl central spines are yellowish to black and 1 to 2 centimeters long. The 30 to 40 needle-like, bright yellow radial spines have a brown tip and a length of 3 to 7 millimeters.
The white, wide-opening and fragrant flowers reach a length of up to 7 centimeters and a diameter of 5.5 to 6 centimeters. The barrel-shaped to elongated, red fruits have a diameter of 3 to 5 centimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Haageocereus subtilispinus is widespread in Peru in the Arequipa region near Atico .
It was first described in 1981 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Haageocereus aticensis F. Ritter (1958, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 36.1 and 37.1).
