The Haarbach is a 2.3 kilometer long right tributary of the Mattenbach in the Winterthur lakes district .
course
The stream rises at a height of about 547 m above sea level. M. in the middle of the Etzberg approximately at the height of the former clearing, where the farm «Vorderer Etzberg» used to be. It flows between Etzbergstrasse and Schönenbergerweg westwards towards the lakes . There the brook flows in the Sonnenberg district between rows of houses towards Winterthur-Seen train station . The stream is overturned at the Seen train station and then flows under Landvogt-Waser- und Kanzleistrasse towards Mattenbach, into which it flows underground.
etymology
The Haarbach was first recorded as Hardbach in 1562 and was also listed under this name on the wild map from 1739. The name is derived from Hof Hard, which was once 300 m below the source to the right of the stream. In contrast to the Vorderer Etzberg farm, this could be seen at the source of the lakes. The lower course of the brook, which is now largely indolent, was formerly called Schwerzenbach (1569 Schwartzennbach) and indicated the blackish ground in the plain.
