history

Former deep well of the Haberatshofen desert

The first written mention of the place dates back to 1126, when the Hadebrechtshofen estate was handed over by Adelbero von Habratshofen and his mother Enzila to the Rottenbuch monastery , to which the tithe had to be paid.

In 1809 Haberatshofen consisted of three shingle-roofed farms and a chapel, at that time 18 people, 6 horses, 1 foal, 12 cows and 4 calves lived with the Fischer, Seelos and Nett families.

The place has always suffered from a water shortage - when the deep well had dried up, water had to be brought up in barrels over the "Wassersteige", a steep forest path from the neighboring Ödwang . When the forest pasture was banned in 1841, the Haberatshofen farmers lost their foundation - all three families moved to Schwabsoien in 1845 . The Bavarian state bought the land, had the farms demolished and the cleared areas reforested. The chapel served as a shelter for forest workers until 1910.

Today only the fountain remains. The foundations of the chapel with a memorial stone, the remains of some gravestones and some old cellar pits of the farms can still be found in the forest.
