Hadrian (Geroldons)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hadrian (Latin Adrianus , also called Adrian, attested in 793; † before 821) was a Frankish nobleman who belonged to the Geroldon family. His father was Gerold , his brother Erbio . Hadrian's importance lies in the fact that he probably represents the genealogical connection between the Geroldons and Count Odo von Orléans , and thus probably also to the Conradinians .

Gerold apparently named his son after Pope Hadrian I , who took office in 772 and received Charlemagne in 774 after his victory over the Lombards and their King Desiderius in Rome. It can therefore be assumed that Gerold took part in the campaign 773/774 and the visit in 774, which suggests the birth of Hadrian at the earliest in 772, and presumably even limited it to the time shortly after 774. In addition, Hadrian made his first (and last) personal appearance in 793 when “Hadrian, Gerold's son” issued a certificate “for the soul of my biological brother Erbio”. Hadrian died in 821 because his widow Waldrat, with the consent of a Count Uto (this will be Odo von Orléans , her son or nephew). Hadrian has no known office or title.

The question of whether Hadrian's father is Gerold the Elder (777/784 attested) or his son Gerold the Younger (786 attested for the first time, X 799) is controversial in research. Since Walahfrid Strabo reports that the younger Gerold had no descendants (probably at his death in 799), but on the other hand it is assumed that Hadrian's brother Erbio was still alive in 808, only Gerold the elder can be considered as a father - under these conditions.

Hadrian's wife was Waldrat (Waldrada; † after 824), who was perhaps the daughter of Erphold and Waldrat, but perhaps also a sister of Wilhelm von Gellone . Your children were:
