Gerold of Anglachgau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerold von Anglachgau (also Gerold I ; * around 730; † probably shortly after 784) was a Franconian nobleman and around 777/784 Count in Kraichgau and Anglachgau . He is the progenitor of the Geroldonen and the Udalrichinger , as well as, through his daughter Hildegard, the grandfather of the Emperor Ludwig the Pious . His parents were Agilolf / Egilolf and Heriswinda.

Life

Gerold was a count in Kraichgau and Anglachgau. Later he moved to Alamannia , where he married Imma , the daughter of the Alemannic Count Hnabi and sister of Count Ruatpert . Through his marriage to Imma, Gerold became part of the highest Alemannic nobility and was thus able to significantly strengthen his position in Alemannia. Imma's grandfather Huoching was the brother of the Bavarian Duke Odilo , which gave him access to the Bavarian nobility.

As documented in the Lorsch Codex on July 1, 784, Gerold and his wife Imma donated extensive goods in the Anglachgau , Kraichgau , Wormsgau , Lobdengau and Ufgau to the Lorsch Imperial Abbey . Probably a short time later Gerold died.
