The Port of Boston (Engl. Port of Boston ) is a large sea port north-east of the center of Boston , Massachusetts in the United States. It extends to the territories of Charlestown , East Boston , South Boston and Everett .
It is the largest port in the state, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the most important on the east coast of the United States . The operator is the Massachusetts Port Authority ( massport ). The harbor was already used by Indians 1000 years ago and expanded by European settlers. Since then it has gained international importance for overseas trade, especially after the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony .

Infrastructure
The Black Falcon Cruise Terminal (South Boston) is the docking and departure point for cruise ships from April to November. In 2009, 200,000 passengers were handled here. The Boston Fish Pier (South Boston) is the oldest fishing port which is still in operation in the United States. The Conley Terminal (South Boston) is the container port . The Boston Autoport (Charlestown), the former Moran Container Terminal , is used to ship motor vehicles.
