The harbor
The port is a former fishing and industrial port. There have been no cutters there for several years . The port is still of industrial importance today. There is still a cement works at the port that uses it. The port depends on the tide . The tidal range is up to 4 meters. Right on the harbor lies the Siel - pumping station , which at low tide drained the interior. The port is operated by the Lower Saxony State Agency Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG .
Marina
Since 1983, the Großensieler Sportboothafen has been going from Großensieler Hafen directly to the south via a small connecting canal . There are six jetties for 260 sailing and motor boats in the sports boat harbor . The sports boat harbor was built in 1983 in a former creek . Since the marina heavy siltation is exposed, it must be dredged annually. Nevertheless, the marina falls completely dry at low tide , but can be navigated without problems for boats with a draft of up to 2.5 m at high tide . The mud in the harbor is soft, so that the keels of larger sailing yachts simply disappear into it when dry .
