Johann Matthäus Oberschall

Johann Matthäus Oberschall (* 1688 in Lausitz ; † 1755 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor.

Life

In 1710 he worked for Caspar Gottlob von Rodewitz in Görlitz . In 1715 he came to the workshop of Johann Christian Kirchner in Dresden . In 1720, after his work at the Dresden Zwinger was finished, he returned to Görlitz. When Rodewitz died, he received citizenship in 1722 and married his widow. From 1729 he worked again in Kirchner's workshop in Dresden. Balthasar Permoser , Paul Heermann and Kirchner died in 1732 . Oberschall was appointed court sculptor as Kirchner's successor . He worked in Dresden until 1755.
