history

First mentioned in a document in 1338 as Laufa-Hayn in a document from Lord von Hettersdorf , zu Unterbessenbach. Hain (Lauspenheim) appears in the Sailauf parish association at the end of the 14th century.

Elector Lothar Franz von Schönborn (1695–1729) had the “old hunting lodge” built, which he used as a residence on his court hunts. In 1823 the district forester moved there. In a register from 1722 Hain had 154 inhabitants and 1782 325 inhabitants. In the same year Hain became the seat of a Kurmainzer district bailiwick with eight villages.

The construction of the railway in 1850–1854 changed the landscape with a mighty railway embankment pierced by the High Viaduct , the gateway to the Hochspessart (called “Chausseebogen”).

On July 1, 1862, the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative area Hain lay. In 1939, as everywhere in the German Reich, the designation district was introduced. Hain was now one of the 33 communities in the old district of Aschaffenburg . On July 1, 1972, this merged with the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia to form the new Aschaffenburg district.

As part of the municipal reform, the municipality of Hain im Spessart became a district of Laufach on May 1, 1978.

church

Around 1779 they built their own church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist . Until 1810, however, baptisms, weddings and burials continued in Laufach. Demolition began in mid-October 1976. In 1970 the new St. John's Church was built.
