The apex of the Hajigak Pass ( hajji gak means "little pilgrim") in the Afghan province of Bamiyan is 3500 m high. The pass overcomes the Koh-e Baba Mountains on the way from Kabul to Bamiyan in central Afghanistan . Starting from Kabul, the path first leads over the Unai Pass , then down to Gardan Diwal and up again to the Hajigak Pass. Since this is very high, it cannot be driven on when it is snowing. Another way to Bamiyan leads over the Shibar pass , which overcomes only 3000 m altitude. Therefore it is used more often.
There is an iron deposit in the mountains of Hajigak estimated at 1.8 billion tons. It is to be mined by Indian companies and transported to the Iranian port of Tschahbahar and then shipped.
