Hakan Mandalinci (born August 6, 1973 in Brackenheim ) is a Turkish-born painter and graphic artist living in Germany.

Life

Mandalinci spent his childhood in Turgutreis , Turkey. In 1982 he came to Bretten in Germany and enjoyed a regular school education. He taught himself to paint and draw for years. The first three letters of his name were the inspiration for his artist name and signature "HakMan". Mandalinci is a descendant of Admiral Turgut Reis , who lives in the Ottoman Empire, and the cousin of the former Turkish Minister of Economics, Zeyyat Mandalinci .

Hakan Mandalinci is married and has two sons.

The artist's style can be explained in symbolism and realism up to hyperrealism , imitating old photographs in pencil and old master paintings in oil, he equips the figures and situations with attributes and accessories of the present and thus creates amazing effects. In his well-known series "RETRO" you can see Mahatma Gandhi on the laptop or in another picture in a boxing fight pose. The artist put the bearded Karl Marx into a racing suit, littered with sponsor advertising; or Dürer's angel with lute as a DJ. Most provocative is the image of the aged Hitler as an old hippie with a wrinkled face, headband and peace sign in a 68 pose. With such provocative motifs, Mandalinci moves people from history into the present and thus triggers controversial associations in the viewer.

In the years of self-study of the old masters' oil painting , he experiments with different oils, resins and pigments and applies this in his art in time-consuming grisaille and layered painting . The “Ashes to Ashes” series was created using wood printing, using a special wood dotting technique with the finest dots. In 2015 he summarized his entire graphic oeuvre in one edition.

In 2008 he was honored with a solo exhibition by the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture in Izmir. His works are represented in private and public collections.
