Hubert Mann

Hubert Mann (* July 7, 1920 in Linz as Hubert Grinzinger ; † August 6, 2014 there ) was an Austrian actor .

Life

Hubert Mann was born in 1920 as the son of the later Vice Mayor of Linz, Emil Grinzinger . After graduating from the Academic Gymnasium Spittelwiese in Linz, he actually wanted to study German and become a professor, which was foiled by the outbreak of the Second World War . He had in Vienna the work and military service pay and attended besides the theater school Otto and the Max Reinhardt Seminar .

Back in Linz he first worked as a radio announcer. First stage appearances followed at the Linz Puppenbühne and at the Kammerspiele . On November 15, 1945, he made his debut in his first major role, as Dervish in Lessing's Nathan the Wise , at the Landestheater Linz . From 1946 he also strengthened the Urfahr Volkstheater until engagements took him to Nuremberg and Cologne . From the end of the 1950s, Mann was also seen in various television productions and films. In 1973, directed by Axel Corti , he appeared in the documentary film A Young Man from the Innviertel as Adolf Hitler's religious teacher Franz Sales Schwarz . Mann also worked with Corti for Der Junge Freud (1976) and Wohin und zurück (1986).

In 1965 Mann returned to his hometown Linz. It was very popular with the Linz audience and was awarded the Mostdipf Prize in 1978 . He was also a critical observer, especially of the director's theater: “ For the actors, it has become dressage acts. The director is in charge, you have to swallow a concept. The actors are the human material for this . “From 1968 he was also head of the acting department at Anton Bruckner University . His last appearance as a member of the Linz Landestheater ensemble was on July 5, 1985 in Jules Feiffer's comedy No Happiness with the Family .

Hubert Mann was married to the actress and singer Liselotte Schmidt and had two children. Daughter Franziska Grinzinger and granddaughter Katharina Straßer also became actresses. His sister Eva Petrus-Pekny and brother-in-law Romuald Pekny were also actors.

Hubert Mann was buried at the Urfahr city cemetery.
