The hook ( Vietnamese dấu hỏi ) is a diacritical mark in the Vietnamese script . It is placed above the core vowel of a syllable and indicates that the syllable in question is in the thanh hỏi (question tone, falling-rising tone), one of the six tones.
The pronunciation is long and deep, the sound is comparable to “true” in the German question “not true?” . The tick looks like a small question mark without a point and is set as a tone over any existing breve or circumflex .
Representation on computer systems
In LaTeX 2e the tick with the T5 coding can be set by the command \hover any letter.
input
With the German standard keyboard layout T2 , the character is entered as Alt Gr+ p. This combination acts as a dead key , i.e. H. must be entered before the basic letter.
