Hakim Toumi

Hakim Toumi (born January 30, 1961 in Algiers ) is a former Algerian hammer thrower .

The 1.80 m tall and 102 kg heavy athlete was by far the best African in his discipline from the mid-1980s to the end of the 1990s. At the Pan-African Games he won the gold medal in 1987 and 1995 and the silver medal in 1987. He won the title at the African Athletics Championships seven times between 1984 and 1996 . Only at the African Athletics Championships in 1990 his winning streak was interrupted by a third place, at the 1998 African Athletics Championships he finished second. In addition, Toumi was a total of seventeen times Algerian hammer throwing champion (1982–1990, 1992–1998, 2003).

At the same time, he could not compete on an international level with the world leaders dominated by Europeans. Toumi never managed to qualify for a final both at World Athletics Championships (1983, 1993, 1997) and at his two Olympic appearances (1984, 1988).
