Hala Gorani

Hala Basha-Gorani (born March 1, 1970 in Seattle , Washington ) is a Syrian-American journalist who works as a news presenter and reporter for CNN International .

Life

Gorani grew up in Washington, DC , Algeria and Paris as the daughter of Syrian immigrants. She then studied economics at George Mason University near Washington DC and political science at Sciences Po in Paris. Gorani began her journalistic career as a reporter for the French daily La Voix du Nord and for the AFP news agency , before moving to France 3 , the second largest French television station, in 1994 . After a short stop at Bloomberg Television in London, she joined the American news broadcaster CNN in 1998 .

Gorani quickly developed into a specialist in the Middle East and reported from Saudi Arabia , Syria , Egypt , Lebanon and Iraq , among others . In 2002, 2007 and 2012 she reported live on the French presidential election .

Since February 2014 Hala Gorani has hosted her own program The World Right Now with Hala Gorani . Before that, she moderated the program International Desk . On November 6, 2017, The World Right Now was replaced by Hala Gorani Tonight , who will be moderated by Gorani as before at 9:00 p.m. CET .

Hala Gorani is fluent in English , French and Arabic .

Gorani has been married to the German journalist Christian Streib, who also works for CNN, since 2015.
