The Hall Peninsula is a small peninsula to the east of Snow Island in the Archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is 3 km southwest of President Head .
The British navigator James Weddell named Snow Island as Basil Halls Island on his Antarctic voyage from 1820 to 1823 , named after Captain Basil Hall (1788-1844) of the Royal Navy . However, this name did not prevail. In order to keep it in a different form, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1962 to transfer it to the peninsula described here.
