The Hallegg , also Haileke , Hallegger , Hallecker were an old Carinthian noble family , which in 1765 was raised to the baron status.

history

The Hallegg were one of the oldest Carinthian aristocratic families, which can be traced back to 1198 at Hallegg Castle not far from Klagenfurt . Otto I. von Hallegg (named 1210 and 1249) and the Ministerials Gerhardus and Albertus de Haileke (von Hallegg) in 1213 are named as the first family members .

The brothers Heidenreich and Albrecht von Hallegg had the first Klagenfurt city fortifications built in the middle of the 13th century , but some of these were demolished during the city's expansion in the 16th century. Otto II von Hallegg was the first vice cathedral of the Duchy of Carinthia from 1390 or 1492 to 1410 .

Christoph Hallecker (Von Hallegg) was named as a burgrave on Sommeregg in 1410/11 . His son Jörg von Hallegg was provincial administrator of the Duchy of Carinthia and burgrave of Sommeregg, which passed to Andreas von Graben in 1442 through his daughter Barbara . Magdalena von Hallegg was abbess of the nunnery Stift St. Georgen am Längsee in Carinthia between 1481 and 1495 . In 1532, Dionis von Hallegg was part of the Carinthian aristocracy against the Turks who invaded neighboring Styria. His son Veit von Hallegg was field colonel on the Windische and Croatian border respectively. Imperial captain on the border of Slavonia and was Kaiser Rudolf II. for Eques auratus beaten. Vitus's son Adam von Hallegg was present as a volunteer at the siege of Kanizsa undertaken by Archduke Ferdinand in 1601 . However, due to his evangelical confession, he had to leave the country, where he died in Regensburg in 1630 .

Johann Maximilian Friedrich von Hallegg was the kk district administrator in Carinthia and was raised to the baron status in 1765 (see Gotha ). The last mentioned are the brothers Johann von Hallegg (* 1792), Imperial Colonel, who remained unmarried, and Maximilian von Hallegg (* 1796), also Imperial Colonel, who taught at the Theresian Military Academy and fell in love with Vienna after his retirement.

The Hallegger was connected to the Dietrichstein , Roggendorf , Guttenstein , Graben , Welzer , Ernau , Neuhaus , Herberstein , Thannhausen and Kellersperg by marriage.

possession

The Hallegg owned the eponymous castle and the Hallegg rule not far from Klagenfurt until 1433 , in the city they lived in a fortified residence in what was then Wienergasse. Her other possessions included, among other things, the Ratzenegg estate and the Seidlhof .

coat of arms

Blazon : divided once by silver and red and split twice. The upper field is alternating in silver and red, the lower one in opposite directions. On the shield two (or three) open crowned helmets, one with two buffalo horns squared in red and silver, the other (or the two outer ones) with an eagle's wing. The helmet covers are red-silver.
