The Hallingskarvet is an approximately 35 km long mountain ridge in southern Norway . The ridge located east of Hardangerjøkulen -Gletschers and north of the Hardangervidda -Hochebene, roughly between the villages of Geilo and Finse . The highest point is the Folarskardnuten with 1933 moh. , which is also the highest point in the former Buskerud province . In the upper area, the massif is shaped like a plateau .
To the north of the ridge is the Strandavatnet reservoir. The Bergen Railway runs south of Hallingskarvet and has at Finse , not far west of Hallingskarvet, with 1222 moh. their highest station. The Hallingskarvet massif has been part of the Hallingskarvet National Park since 2006 .
The ridge is still glaciated and has numerous snow fields even in summer . In addition, apart from a few mosses , lichens and grasses, it is almost completely devoid of vegetation.
