heritage Site

Various hunting utensils were found in the national park, suggesting prehistoric / historical use of the mountains as a hunting and / or settlement area.

In the 17th to 19th centuries, the park was along an important trade route. Simple overnight huts, so-called lægre , still bear witness to this today. In 1880 the English Count Lord Garvagh had a stone hunting lodge, the Lordehytta , built to hunt reindeer in the vicinity .

Administration and tourism

The Norwegian Trekking Association maintains the huts Finsehytta in the south and Geiterygghytta in the north in the park . Private accommodation is available in Raggsteindalen and Haugastøl . There are marked hiking trails between the huts.

A piece of the Skarverennet runs through the park between Finse and Ustaoset . The Rallarvegen also runs to the south of the park .
