The park consists of almost 99% water. Raet is a terminal moraine from the Ice Age around 12,000 years ago, the geological formation of which occurs throughout Scandinavia and in the Raet National Park both on land and underwater. Characteristic of these terminal moraines are the pebble beaches, which are heavily washed out by the sea. In some sheltered places, however, there are also fine sandy beaches that invite you to swim.
Flora and fauna
There are both migratory and resident birds in the Raet National Park . Among other things, there is the wood warbler , the fitis and the blackcap . But titmice and thrushes can also be discovered here. It is also an important habitat for many plants and insects. Coastal heathland and salt meadows with a variety of plants, including rare and protected plants, fungi and lichen, have contributed to this area receiving national park status.
1530 butterfly species have been found in the national park, 168 of which are on the Norwegian red list of species worthy of protection.
Tourism and administration
The area is a popular recreational area. The area lends itself to water boating, kayaking, and windsurfing. You can go hiking or fishing on land. There are 132 holiday homes within the national park.
