The Lomsdal-Visten National Park ( Norwegian Lomsdal-Visten nasjonalpark , South Sami Njaarken vaarjelimmiedajve ) is a national park in Norway . It is located in the province of Nordland and belongs to the municipalities of Brønnøy , Vevelstad , Vefsn and Grane . The 1,102 km² park was opened on May 29, 2009 to protect its unmistakable, almost untouched nature with its different ecosystems, animals and plants, its geological conditions and cultural heritage.

Lomsdal-Visten borders the 32 km² Strauman nature reserve , which was opened on the same day at Visten Fjord. The nature reserve Skjørlægda in Vefsn, and the nature reserves Laksmarkdalen in Vevelstad and Strompdalen in Brønnøy became part of the national park. In the southeast of the park is the Børgefjell National Park .

Geography, landscape and geology

The park extends from the sea and the fjords in the west, across different landscapes to the Visfjellan Mountains in the west, which is part of the Scandinavian Mountains . In the south there is the Eiterådalen valley and the Svenningsdalen valley with the Svenningdalselva river , and the national park there also borders almost on the village of Tosbotn on the Tosen Fjord.

In general, the landscape is dominated by mountains, plateaus , steep gorges , river valleys, small lakes and other bodies of water. There are large caves and limestone mountains in Vistfjellan . There are some major rapids and waterfalls in the rivers in the park . The mountain Vistkjerringa is 1,239 moh. the highest in the national park.

Flora and fauna

There are many large coniferous and deciduous forests in Lomsdal-Visten. Of the abundance of animal and plant species, 44 are threatened or endangered. These include swans , black-throated divers , red-throated divers , woodpeckers and various lichens and fungi . The flora and fauna in the park are representative of all of Helgeland .

Administration and tourism

There are several simple huts in Lomsdal-Visten that hikers use as overnight huts. Hunting and fishing is only possible with a permit.
