The Dovre National Park ( Norwegian Dovre nasjonalpark ) is a Norwegian national park that is located in the mountainous region north of Innlandet . It is also located between the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park and the Rondane National Park . The park was founded in 2003 and has an area of 289 km².

The park belongs to the municipalities of Dovre and Folldal . In the south and southeast it borders on the nature reserve Grimsdalen and Rondane. In the northwest to the nature reserve Fokstugu , the E 6 and the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park . The two nature reserves form a considerable nature reserve with the three national parks. In the Dovre are the nature reserves Kattuglehøi naturreservat , Mesætermyre naturreservat and Veslehjerkinntjørnin naturreservat . A little outside the Fokstumyra nature reserve , the Haukskardmyrin nature reserve and the Hjerkinnholin nature reserve .

South-east of the park, near Rondane , there is a manned mountain and information hut , the Grimsdalshytta , which is run by the Norwegian Trekking Association .

Geography, landscape and geology

Most of the park is above the tree line . The landscape is characterized by mountains , glaciers and remains of glaciers such as dead ice and osen . Around the three highest mountains, Fokstuhøe (1716 moh.), Halvfarhøe (1689 moh.) And Falketind (1,684 moh.), The soil and vegetation have an arctic character with traces of permafrost . The park also has some of Norway's southernmost palsamoore . The different types of rock and the resulting nutrient-rich and fertile soils are an important reason for the diverse flora and fauna in the entire national park.

The Dovre and the adjacent national parks and nature reserves are among the last refuge areas in Europe for wild mountain animals . There are also other larger mammals such as wolverines and lynxes in the park . The most common bird species are ringed plover , lark , golden eagle and gyrfalcon .

heritage Site

Finds of prehistoric reindeer hunting have been made in the national park. These include pitfalls and various other fishing aids and weapons .
