The hut is in 1620  moh. , on the banks of a small lake on the Hallingskarvet massif, just under a kilometer east of the Folarskardnuten . You can only walk on a hiking trail z. For example, it can be reached in 7-8 hours from the shore of Strandavatnet through Raggsteindalen , or in a good 3 hours from Haugastøl .

history

The hut was built around 1880 by order of Charles John Spencer George Canning, III. Erected Baron de Garvagh. Canning was in the process of writing a book about Norwegian mountains and knew the area as his father had often hunted reindeer there since the 1860s .

The hut was erected as a long stone building with low walls and contains two rooms: an anteroom that serves as a storage room for firewood, food and hiking equipment, and a living room with a fireplace behind it. It was probably the first mountain hut in the world to be built as a holiday and not as a refuge.

Charles John Spencer George Canning and his father Charles Henry Spencer George Canning, II. Baron von Garvagh, are credited with building ten "Lordehyttas" in Rondane and the area around the Aurlandsfjord , one of which is still in use today.

The hut at Folarskardnuten was built by the Norwegian Lars Lein (from Sudndalen). Lein was a successful hunter whom Canning had met on his first hunting holiday in the region. Canning turned out to be eccentric during construction and ordered, among other things, that the wood should be carried to the construction site and no longer processed there.

The Lordehytta was completely renovated in 1990 and has been regularly serviced since then. The use of the hut and its supplies (especially the supply of firewood) is free of charge for every hiker, although donations are welcome.

Tours from Lordehytta / summit ascents

The main target from the Lordehytta is the folar card grooves in the west. There are hardly any marked hiking trails, although the routes and possible summit ascents in the Hallingskarvet massif are not very demanding.
