The Schaanwald stop is the stop of Schaanwald in Liechtenstein . It is located on the single- track Feldkirch – Buchs line operated by ÖBB . The stop building has been a listed building since January 19, 1999 (identifier 5512.0112 ).

The Schaanwald station is a typical example of the stops that were created along the Austrian railway lines at the beginning of this century. Around 300 stops of this type have already been demolished as far as the Innsbruck area . The bus stop building is unique in Liechtenstein.

history

On January 13, 1870, the Liechtenstein Parliament and the government granted the then Vorarlberger Bahn the concession for the construction and operation of a railway line from Feldkirch via Liechtenstein territory to Buchs ( Switzerland ). The railway line was built from 1870 to 1872 and opened on October 24, 1872.

In 1902, the Schaanwald stop was approved by the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Trade and Economics and initially built without a building and then put into operation on October 15, 1902. Next to it was the house of the station attendant (house no. 8). After electrified rail operations could begin in December 1926, a first plan for a reception building was presented in 1927. In 1928, the current stop was finally built in a modified (reduced) form. The building is about 13.50 m long and 3 m wide. It is the smallest of the four train stations in Liechtenstein. In the building there is the (formerly) publicly accessible waiting room, a service compartment, a customs office and ancillary rooms (e.g. toilet, wood / coal storage).

Around 50 trains frequent the stop every day. There are currently no scheduled stops at the Schaanwald stop, while the other three stops in Liechtenstein, Schaan , the Forst Hilti stop and the Nendeln train station are served by passenger trains three to nine times a day, with a focus on commuter times on working days.

The station has not been manned by a railway attendant since 1988. In October 1997 the municipality of Mauren acquired the bus stop building and renovated it shortly afterwards.

As part of an infrastructure contract with the Austrian Federal Railways, it was decided in March 2011 to modernize some train stations and stops in Liechtenstein, including the Schaanwald stop. Among other things, higher platforms are being built for stepless access to the trains. A double-track expansion of the railway line has been under discussion for decades. In this context, the railway line in Liechtenstein is to become more attractive and to be increasingly included in local public transport (see also the planned infrastructure measures for the Vorarlberg S-Bahn ).
